Business Continuity
Purpose
The purpose of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Overview is to outline the strategy that underpins Curtin's BCP Programme.
Objectives
The BCP programme has been developed to assist Curtin University to respond effectively to critical incidents that may affect its business. The programme integrates the normal critical incident management framework and emergency response minimum standards and guidelines, and establishes response procedures and priorities to deal with major incidents.
The BCP programme recognises the corporate fiduciary responsibility for Curtin University to ensure its assets (human, information and property) are protected and that ongoing continuity of Curtin's critical services is maintained, whilst ensuring Curtin meets its Duty of Care towards all stakeholders.
The objectives of Business Continuity Management at Curtin University are:
To establish and implement a structured process that will enable Curtin University to effectively manage and respond to any anticipated or unanticipated major incidents in a timely manner
To safeguard the health and safety of employees, students and visitors during and after a major incident
To ensure the continuity of critical business processes within the required timeframes and recovery of assets / capabilities following a major incident
To comply with the WA Government guidelines and requirements on business continuity for best practice, as well as meet the expectations of the community and key stakeholders to have effective continuity in planning in place.
Scope
The scope of this plan covers all Faculties and Curtin's core business service units located at the Bentley Campus .
Risk mitigation measures and procedures for dealing with day to day operational problems at the University are not included in this plan. These should be addressed as part of Curtin's broader Risk Management programme and standard operating procedures respectively.
BCP Process
A five-phase process that is based closely on the WA Government Business Continuity Management Guidelines is used in the development and implementation of Curtin University's Business Continuity Management Plan.
